“Your silence will not protect you.” —Audre Lorde
This quote has driven me for over two decades of advocacy for justice and equity, particularly in addressing the unique challenges faced by Black women. With a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Warwick, my focus has been on reforming justice policy to address violence against women and girls. While I don’t like being called “Dr.,” I recognize the importance of acknowledging this accomplishment.
Before earning my doctorate, I was already advocating for survivors of FGC, campaigning for abortion rights, and pushing for improved state care for children. Today, as Director of Advocacy and Communications at both GOC and Deputy CEO of White Ribbon Alliance Global Secretariat, I work to advance gender equity—from developing campaigns to improve maternal health outcomes to designing strategies that inform the role of men and boys in dismantling patriarchy.
In 2019, I co-founded Dope Black Women CIC, an award-winning space for Black women and gender-diverse people. In 2023, I published my first book, “Decolonising Restorative Justice: A Case of Policy Reform.” I have also shared my expertise on BBC Woman’s Hour, among other platforms, including guest lectures at the University of Cambridge and the University of Leicester.
Beyond my advocacy work, I enjoy theatre, visual art, books, live music, and cooking. As a kidney donor and survivor, I share my story on platforms like the Unapologetically Black podcast to inspire others. My commitment to personal transparency fuels my advocacy, allowing me to champion others effectively.
